NRBC bank goes thru' overhaul

The NRB Commercial Bank yesterday restructured its board of directors to help restore corporate governance and depositors' confidence in it.

Tamal SM Parvez, a director, has been made the new chairman of the bank that was established in 2013.

The new board also sent Managing Director Dewan Mujibur Rahman on a three-month leave, and made Deputy Managing Director Kazi Md Talha acting MD.

The decisions were made at an emergency meeting of the bank's board in line with the instructions of Bangladesh Bank.

The new board also brought changes in other key positions.

Mohammad Shahid Islam has been made the new vice chairman of the bank.

Abu Bakr Chowdhury, Rafiqul Islam Mia Arzoo and Adnan Imam have been made chairmen of the executive, audit and risk management committees.

Talking to The Daily Star yesterday, Tamal said the restructuring was done with the support of all directors, including the bank's former chairman Farasath Ali.

Last week, the central bank issued an order for removing Mujibur from the post of MD. Later, the High Court stayed the BB order.
