Coimbatore: The seventh week of Happy Streets at Scheme Road in Race Course on Sunday was a treat for photographers. With the announcement of the Kovai Gethu photography contest, lensmen in large numbers turned out, capturing moments of children playing with friends and parents.

Cameras with high resolution lenses mounted on tripods and lensmen trying not to miss a great shot were common scenes during the day. Most photographers wanted to capture happiness, innocence and joy in children.

Besides, people were engaged in activities like Zumba, football, badminton, yoga, cycling and skating. Speaking to TOI, a first time visitor to Happy Streets, Senthil Vedappan, a 32-year-old banker from the city, said, "We have been told about Happy Streets since its first edition. But my son Tamizh was a tiny tot at that time and we could not visit back then. We came today to get a hang of things here and have a first-hand experience of the activities."

For nearly an hour, the crowd indulged in Zumba that was coordinated by Bethoven's Fitness. To add excitement to the fitness activity, the crowd danced to the beats of the 'Jimmiki Kamal' song

Soon, the crowd was put to witness some phenomenal talent of kids from the city. Rakshana displayed her talent in arranging cards of from ace to king. Soon, she showed people how she could colour a mermaid's picture blindfolded. After Rakshana, another boy from the city was spotted playing chess blindfolded.

The highlight of the seventh edition was drummer Sharvesh's performance towards the end. He played some solo numbers and to the crowd's surprise there was a hip-hop group that grooved some moves to the drum beats. The crowd enjoyed the 15-minute performance and Sharvesh got the audience clapping to the beats of his drums.

Another highlight on Sunday was a display of selected photographs submitted by Coimbatoreans for the Kovai Gethu photography contest. From the iconic images of the bust of Adiyogi at the Isha Foundation to pictures of animals, the Scheme Road had more than 20 images on display.
