SSC CHSL Exam is one of the biggest exams conducted in India due to the number of applicants appeared in the previous years. The number of candidates also pushes up the competition involved in the SSC CHSL Exam. SSC CHSL Exam cut off marks has increased in the recent year due to the increase in the number of applicants and regularly increasing competence level of various candidates who take  the help of internet and mobile. SSC CHSL was made fully online in the year 2016. After its transformation to only online mode, the number of applications as increased tremendously and so the competition level.

Another leveller which plays its part, was the removal of interview from the SSC CHSL Exam. It was done in the year 2015 when the Modi Government issued notification related to this The positive impact of this was of dual nature. Firstly, it weeded out any possibility of the corruption at the interview  stage of SSC CHSL Exam and secondly, all the focus of the SSC CHSL candidates was shifted to the written exam only.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern

SSC CHSL Exam consist of two stages of exam officially called as the Tier I and Tier II in the SSC CHSL Notification. SSC CHSL Tier I exam works as a filter for the Tier II exam. The huge number of candidates appearing in the CHSL Exam Tier I and only Tier I passed candidates appear in the SC CHSL Tier II Exam.

SSC CHSL Tier I Exam

The Tier I SSC CHSL exam is an objective type test divided into four sections, General Intelligence, English Language (Basic Knowledge), Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill) and General Awareness. Each Section is of 50 Marks and Total marks for SS CHSL Exam Tier I Exam is 200.

Also One thing is very important to note here that there is negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer. Candidates qualifying the Tier I exam securing the qualifying marks will be selected for the Tier II exam. The major change in SSC CHSL 2017 is the reduction of time from 75 minutes to 60 minutes.

Points to remember

  • The exam is objective type and will be conducted online.
  • There would be 25 questions from each section which make the total number of questions to 100. 2 marks are awarded  for each correct response and -0.50 marks deducted for every wrong response.
  • Questions will appear both in English and Hindi except the English language Questions.
  • Total time in 1 hour(60 Minutes)

SSC CHSL Tier II Exam

Candidates who qualify the Tier I exam by securing the required qualifying marks as notified by the SSC will be allowed to appear for the Tier II descriptive paper. The cutoff marks for different categories will be released by SSC with the declaration of marks. The Tier II exam is the second stage of SSC CHSL Exam and it evaluates the necessary writing skills of the candidates which are necessary of government jobs.

The paper asks questions regarding the essay writing (200-250 words) and letter/application writing of approximately 150-200 words. Total marks for the Tier II exam is 100 and it will held offline i.e. pen and paper mode. Candidates will have to secure 33% as their minimum qualifying marks to qualify this stage of SSC CHSL.
The candidates can write the Essay and Letter/Application in English as well as in Hindi.

The SSC CHSL Exam Syllabus is very simple in nature and hence the competition level is very high. The SSC CHSL Exam Syllabus includes four major areas of study.

General Intelligence

General Intelligence questions in the SSC CHSL Exam are meant to evaluate the cognitive and analytical skills of the candidates. General Intelligence is a very important  part of the SSC CHSL Exam Syllabus because it tests the candidate’s analytical, reasoning and cognitive skills in a comprehensive way.

General Intelligence questions demand accurate observation power and analytical speed from the candidate to solve the questions in time bound manner. It helps in getting good marks in the SSC CHSL Exam but the risk starts due to the negative marking in the SSC CHSL Exam. The negative marking make it little difficult to approximate the answer. The candidate has to solve the question in its entirety and check with the given answer options.

English

English is the most common language around the world and it is used as the working language in India also apart from Hindi. The English language test forms an integral part of the SSC CHSL Exam. It is a very important component because it can help in saving time in the SSC CHSL paper which the candidates can use in other sections of the SSC CHSL Question Paper.

English can be a time saver, but only in the case when it is prepared in a structured manner. A whole lot of practice is required to prepare the English section of the SSC SCHL Exam. Quantitative Aptitude

Quantitative Aptitude is to test the objective competence in the SSC CHSL Exam. Setup of the Staff Selection Commission-SSC

The Staff Selection Commission is one of the largest recruiting agencies in the world in the Government sector in terms of number of applicants. The Commission is entrusted with the task of making recruitment to all Group ‘B’ (non-gazetted) and Group ‘C’ (non-technical) posts in various Ministries/ Departments of Government of India and their Attached and Sub-ordinate Offices except those posts exempted from the purview of Commission.
The Commission is headed by a Chairman who is assisted by two Members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations. They are further supported by other officers and Staff of the HQ (Organization Chart at Appendix III) and by a Regional Network of offices established at various locations. The Headquarter of the Commission is located at New Delhi.

The Staff Selection Commission has its Headquarter at New Delhi. All Examinations as well as administrative matters are submitted to the Chairman through two Members. The Secretary functions under both the Members. Besides, there are post of one Director, one Deputy Secretary, two Joint Directors, nine Under Secretaries, four Deputy Directors, one Finance & Budget Officer, one Assistant Director (OL), 24 Section Officers and more than 183 supporting officers / staff working at the Headquarters for discharging the duties and responsibilities of the Commission.
