BENGALURU: Finding ‘Hai Bangalore’ editor Ravi Belagere a tough nut to crack over his alleged supari contract to kill his former employee Suneel Heggaravalli, the police are trying to extend his four-day police custody which ends on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Central Crime Branch sleuths, investigating the case, have questioned Belagere’s second wife Yashomathi, who has denied any connections with the alleged plan to kill Heggaravalli over a personal dispute between Belagere and Heggaravalli.
A senior police official told the New Indian Express that Belagere had not been replying to questions from the CCB team and that they were unhappy with no results yielding despite the police custody coming to an end on Monday. The senior police officer said Belagere even counter-questioned the CCB officials during interrogation, much to the latter’s frustration.
Besides, Belagere had to be taken to Victoria Hospital several times due to his illness, shrinking the time available for CCB sleuths to get any relevant points out of him to make a headway.
“So we may seek extension of his custody for a few more days to gather enough information,” the officer said.
The CCB questioned Yashomathi as a rumour had surfaced that Heggaravalli had an illicit relationship with her, which allegedly led Belagere to try to have him killed. However, Yashomathi has denied this, saying she had not been in contact with Belagere over the past few years.
