Thane: A senior citizen was beaten up and robbed of his gold chain worth Rs 50,000 by two men near Wagbhil on Thursday evening.
According to the police, the victim, Sudhir Bhagat (69)—a retired teacher and a native of Nagpur —was in the city to visit his daughter. He had gone out for a walk in the evening at 7pm when the incident took place.
"The senior citizen was walking towards Waghbil when the accused who were walking in the opposite direction ran into him. Bhagat ignored it and apologised. However, the accused picked up an argument and held the senior citizen by the collar. One of them then slapped him. As the victim was in a state of shock, he could react to what was happening. Taking advantage of this, the accused slyly snatched his chain and fled,'' said a police official. The police said it could be a new modus operandi chain-snatchers are adopting these days.
