Coimbatore: Around 8.30am on Sunday, 600 people and special children converged at the football ground at onlookers near the Nehru Stadium have witnessed a group ofwhich was a message to create awareness towards inclusion of people with special needs in every walk of life.
The event, a special walkathon, was organised by Kaumaram Prashanti Academy, a school for children with special needs, from 6am to 8.30am.
Earlier, around 600 participants started lining up at the start line, the entrance gate of Nehru Stadium, around 6am and were full of josh to start the walk of 5km. Shyama from Sheriff Dance Company warmed up the participants with Zumba moves.
Swarnalatha from Swarga Foundation and Kumaragubara Swamigal of Kaumara Madalayam flagged off the walk. Every participant, who was loaded with energy drink, had walked through the RTO Office Road till Women's Polytechnic signal and then returned to the Nehru Stadium.
Meanwhile, around 6.30am, another group too started lining up at the start line. This time, it consists of special children from the academy and a few other special school children who use wheelchair along with their parents and attenders. They were getting ready for a 1km walk.
After the warm up of the participants, Periasamy IRS, joint commissioner GST commissionerate and Shridhar, joint director general of foreign trade Coimbatore, flagged off the walk.
The group walked for 1km around the Nehru Stadium. When they reached the finish line, 600 participants who started earlier have converged at the same time, which was planned for participants to feel the inclusion.
Every participant was awarded with a medal and certificate. Founder director of Kaumaram Prashanti Academy Deepa Mohanraj spoke about being a special parent as well as how the academy evolved in the field of education for special children and how the school at Chinnavedampatti is an abode of happiness.
