NAGPUR: Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras fitted at the marriage hall of a Ramdaspeth-based star hotel caught a well-dressed young boy stealing a woman's purse having valuables worth more than Rs5.04 lakh, including cash Rs2 lakh, on Sunday. It is suspected that the boy was accompanied by a man.

The theft had taken place when the members of the two families, Sawrak and Alone, were engaged in photo-session with their relatives and friends invited to the ceremony. In the morning, the groom Mayuresh and bride Gauri had tied the knot at the same venue. Mayuresh's mother Pratima was posing with the newly-wed couple and left her purse on a sofa in the vicinity. The other relatives too were present on the stage.

Police said the CCTV footage procured from the hall showed that the boy sneaked away from the hall after picking up the purse. Other footage also revealed that he was being followed by another man. It is also learnt that the boy had greeted many at the hall from both the families and their friends before decamping with the purse.

An offence was registered at Sitabuldi police station after the cops were alerted by the Sawkar family.
