| | Haridwar | in Dehradun

Observing the Human Rights Day on December 10 in Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya auditorium, the members of the national human rights protection society pledged to spread the message to every common man for  availing his or her rights as a human being while discharging duties towards the nation. In a written message to the society the Haridwar District Magistrate said that without human rights, a healthy society cannot be dreampt of.

Presiding over the function as chief guest, eye surgeon from Himalayan institute of medical sciences hospital Dr Harsh Bahadur said, “It is the need of the hour to strike a balance between the duties and rights of a citizen in the society. Without the duties, rights carry little value. One must know that while demanding the human rights, one must not violate the rights of others.”

Addressing the gathering also consisting of eminent people of the society including academicians, lawyers, social activists and industrialists who had come from different States, social worker and advocate Raj Kumar Chauhan opined that without moral upliftment, no law could enforce justice in the society. If making laws alone could end crime, the endless crimes happening today could have been checked. One must be made morally conscious for enforcement of law and order in the society, he added.

Expressing her views, Kamla Joshi said asked everyone to donate an hour a week to Sparsh Ganga campaign. “By keeping the river clean, our eco-system will be maintained and if it is our human right to draw benefits from the mother Ganga, it was our duty to keep it clean as well.” She exhorted people not to throw Puja leftovers in the Ganga.

President of Bharat Vikas Parishad, Devbhoomi branch Rashmi Monga said, “It is good to have freedom but it must be in limits. However, freedom must not be an excuse to oppress others,” she opined.

The founder member of the society and national president Madusudan Agarwal said, “Our society is working in 11 states of the country at state and district levels and each representative is spreading awareness about the human rights and hundreds of people were helped in getting justice from the court of law in the past few years.”

Started in the year 2011, the National Human rights protection society claims to have helped many people get their civil rights. Dealing with multifarious complaints of common people and getting them their rightful demands of clean drinking water, clean environment and justice to women, the working committee is encouraging more and more social workers to join the cause, aver the society’s office bearers.
