Former Member of Parliament and Congress leader Devvrat Singh has alleged on Sunday that the cooperative movement in the state is tainted in the 14 years of Bharatiya Janata Party rule. He stated that it has now become ‘corruption with cooperation’.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan, he said cooperative movement was known for development taking cooperation of all, but it has now become a place of corruption of the leaders of ruling party.
Rs Rs Thousands of cooperative institutes, meant for welfare of farmers and common people are closed down due to the government’s neglect. State Development Bank and 12 District Development Banks were shut down by the department, who were providing medium duration and long term loan to the farmers’’, he alleged.
The elected boards of cooperative institutes are unnecessarily dissolved by the government over petty issues, he alleged. In dozens of such cases the High Court has found the government orders unconstitutional and is a proof of government’s laxity, he said. Among 72 Kisan Rice Mills almost all of them are closed down except 8 which are running in loss, Devvrat said.
Regarding tourism, the Congress leader charged that even after 14 years of rule the government has failed to finalise the Tourism police for the state.
The tourist places in the state are not in a good state due to laxity of the government. Even though having splendid natural beauty they are in the position of ‘zero’ in the national tourist map, he alleged. Rs Rs When even the people of state don’t know, how could the people of other parts of country have the knowledge of such places,’’ he questioned.
