A local lottery winner must wait for an investigation before he can collect his money because the Ontario Lottery and Gaming corporation considers his luck an “insider win.”
Fadi Aziz won $100,000 playing an Instant Bingo Doubler ticket purchased at Rose Convenience on Wyandotte Street.
But since his father works at an OLG retail location, the corporation said the win falls within the definition of an insider win.
There is a two-step process to collecting prizes in the case of an insider win. The first is an independent investigation by a third-party working in partnership with OLG’s regulator, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
The OLG said Monday that step is completed. The gaming corporation will now hold the prize for 30 days to see if anyone else claims it. If there are no other claims to the money, Aziz will be paid January 9.
