The board decided to shorten the team's cricketing calendar to 306 playing days, from the earlier 390 playing days, for the period between 2019 to 2023. This does not include the 2021 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2023 ICC World Cup. Taking these tournaments into account as well, Team India's playing days now will not surpass the 350-day mark.
This comes after Indian captain Virat Kohli during the ongoing series against Sri Lanka had complained about the team not getting enough time to prepare for the series against South Africa, which begins in January.
Indian cricketers have been playing non-stop cricket since start of the IPL, followed by ICC Champions Trophy, away tours of West Indies and Sri Lanka and three successive home series against Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka comprising 23 matches (3 Tests, 11 ODIs and 9 T20 Internationals).
In the meeting it was further decided that Team India will play almost fifty percent of its matches against big international teams like England, Australia and South Africa. The BCCI decided that a working group will be formed for the FTP to be set up by president, secretary and treasurer of the board.
Sources in the BCCI informed Cricketnext that the FTP is expected to have more limited overs matches. India recently had its longest home season and a huge chunk of that included Test matches.
In other key decisions taken during the meeting, the board revoked its long standing ban on the Rajasthan Cricket Association. Cricketnext had earlier reported that the RCA was going to get a reprieve from the board after former president Lalit Modi decided to voluntarily move away from cricket administration.
"Cricket should not suffer. General body has agreed to revoke ban with certain conditions. Dealing with misconduct of the past, Lalit Modi should not be indirectly involved in RCA or affiliated bodies," BCCI's acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary said in a press conference after the meeting.
The board also decided against coming under the jurisdiction of the National Anti-Doping Agency yet again and reiterated its stand that it already follows the regulations laid down by WADA, which is the global anti-doping agency.
