ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi Police have started issuing new permanent vehicle registration cards as part of their bid to offer smart services in line with the world’s best practices for the happiness of customers.
Brigadier General Ibrahim Naser Al Shamsi, Director of Vehicle Licensing Department, said the permanent vehicle registration card, which took effect from this month, is issued once to a customer and has no expiry date or insurance details. However, a new permanent registration card would be issued in case of any changes in the registration card such as transfers or mortgages, he added, noting that technical testing would be required in case of renewal of vehicle registration card to see if the vehicle is good for use and its insurance is valid.
No technical testing would be required for new vehicles for three years and hence their registration cards can be renewed online, the police said.
Vehicles owners will be sent a reminder that their vehicles registration cards need to be renewed by means of an SMS one month before expiry and customers can make sure of the expiry of their registration cards through Abu Dhabi Police’s smart apps and websites.
Those who require a “To whom it may concern” certificate for travel to GCC countries can get the certificate from the department, while travelers to Arab and foreign countries can get a tourist travel certificate from the department which would be valid for one time only.
