Rajkot: An alert shop owner in Wankaner village helped rescue a seven-year-old boy from the clutches of kidnappers within hours of his abduction from the doorstep of his residence in Janta Society of Morbi town (about 32km away) on Monday morning. Six persons were booked in the case of which two have been arrested.
One of the accused, identified as Sunny Devnani (27), a resident of Bhopal in Mahdya Pradesh was arrested from Rafadiya village in Wankaner. Devnani was tied to an iron pol and thrashed by angry villagers before handing him over to the police. Another accused, Sudhir Chowrasiya, also resident of Madhya Pradesh, who had aided the kidnapping of Dev Padaliya (7) was arrested from Morbi. During interrogation, the duo revealed the name of four key conspirators — Aditya Prajapati, Vijay Patel, Kuldeepsinh Jadeja, all from Morbi and Viayvan Gurjar of Rajasthan. It is suspected that the accused knew Dev's father Jagdish Padaliya, who is a ceramic factory owner and wanted to extract money from him.
The incident took place around 7.15am when Dev, his sister and mother Kiran Jagdish Padaliya were waiting for school bus outside their residence in Janta Society on Ravapar Road in Morbi. Devnani and one other accused arrived on a motorcycle and asked Kiran if her brother-in-law Sagar was home. Devnani, who was riding pillion got down from the bike and requested Kiran to go inside and call him. Kiran, who was carrying Dev in her arms, put him down besides his sister and went inside to call Sagar.
Grabbing the opportunity, Devnani picked up Dev and jumped on to the bike and fled as Dev's sister and mother cried for help and chased them. Soon, the family sent the picture of Dev and video of the CCTV footage that showed the accused kidnapping the boy on WhatsApp across different groups.
Meanwhile, the kidnappers reached Rafadiya village in Wankaner and Devnani took the boy to the market. This was when a shopkeeper Mukesh Hadiyal recognized the boy from the WhatsApp video he had received in the morning and nabbed Devnani with help of other villagers. The boy was handed over the parents.
