For the first time this season, Duke is not the No. 1 team in the USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll. The top 10 is, however, doubly devilish this week.

The Blue Devils fall from the top spot after sustaining their first loss of the season at Boston College over the weekend. Kansas, which lost twice during the week to Pac-12 schools at home, tumbled further from the second position.

Those results cleared the way for 10-0 Villanova to assume the No. 1 ranking. The Wildcats, who were fourth last week, edged ahead of No. 2 Michigan State. Those two received all the first-place votes, with Villanova claiming 22 and the Spartans 10. Wichita State climbed to No. 3 ahead of Duke. Kentucky rounds out the top five.

The big mover of the week is Arizona State. The Sun Devils, who handed Kansas one of its setbacks, climb 11 places to No. 6. It is ASU’s highest ranking in the coaches poll since USA TODAY began its administration in 1991. Their previous high was No. 11 in February of 2009.

The Jayhawks, meanwhile, drop all the way to No. 12. But they were hardly the only ones whose ranking took a precipitous decline this week. Notre Dame slid from No. 8 to No. 18, while Florida tumbled from No. 5 to No. 22.

Five newcomers joined the top 25, headed by No. 19 Florida State and No. 20 Tennessee. Minnesota and Cincinnati were among the dropouts.
