WATCH: Man saves rabbit as Cali residents face mandatory evacuations
As California faces another raging fire causing mandatory evacuation of thousands of people, a man saved a frightened rabbit from the blaze.
This video was taken on the 101 Freeway in Ventura County, where 150 homes have burned down and 50,000 people have been forced to evacuate.
The man saw the rabbit running wildly among the flames, and decided to try and catch it to take it to safety.
Although many comments have applauded the man's heroic efforts, others have pointed out that the man may have put himself unnecessarily at risk, that wild animals know how to deal with fires and should be left alone.
Slate posits that although blame should not be put on the person in the video, circulating the video and hailing him a 'hero' could set a dangerous precedent for people caught in similar situations, adding to the strain on emergency personnel who are already strained in these kind of fires.
