BENGALURU: Increase in crime, decline in investments and employment opportunities in the state appear to be the major issues for the BJP, as they seek to retain their dominance in the city in the upcoming Assembly elections. With a target to win 25 out of 28 seats in the city, party leaders at the Parivarthana Rally on Sunday urged voters to ensure that BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa becomes the Chief Minister for the third time. Yeddyurappa, speaking at the rally, targeted the Karnataka government for “increase in crimes in the state”, saying the IT city has transformed into “rape city”.

He claimed that the National Crime Records Bureau data has revealed that the city is number one in terms of rape. Apart from this, crimes against women is also the highest in Bengaluru, he said. Murders and extortion has become common here, he said, giving the example of former JD(S) corporator Govinde Gowda’s murder. Apart from an increase in crime, investments in the state too have declined, he said. Though Memorandum of Understanding for investments worth `3 lakh crore was signed, only `27,000 crore has been invested till date, he added. Earlier, Union Minister and Bengaluru South MP Ananth Kumar said the party will put forth efforts to secure 25 out of 28 Assembly seats in Bengaluru Urban limits. He added, “125 seats will be secured by Yeddyurappa across the state taking the total tally of the party to 150.” Taking a dig at Siddaramaiah’s ‘I have a dream’ ad campaign, he said it was due to the fact that Siddaramaiah has been sleeping for four-and-half years. “He doesn’t have dreams of Bengaluru development, or providing employment to the youth, or reduce crime in the city. All the dreams he has are the colourful dreams of (former minister) H Y Meti,” he said.

BSY calls

Siddu a ‘baccha’ Criticising the recent statement of Siddaramaiah that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scared of him, Yeddyurappa said, “You (Siddaramaiah) are a baccha. Why should Modi be afraid of you?” he asked.
