In a recent research, a group of scientists has found that postmenopausal women who lose weight may have a significantly less chance of developing breast cancer.Talking about the research, Rowan Chlebowski, professor in the Department of Medical Oncology and Therapeutics Research at City of Hope in Duarte said Breast Cancer is among the leading causes of death in American women. Obesity has also increased in America. To co-relate obesity and cancer, a study analysed data from more than 60,000 women and found that over 3,000 developed invasive breast cancer over the following 11-12 years. The study involved data from Women's Health Initiative (WHI) Observational Study, which tracks postmenstrual women aged between 50 and 79. To analyse, 41 percent women weighing normal, 34 percent overweight and 24 percent obese women were taken into consideration. It was observed that women losing weight, more than 5 percent, were 12 percent less likely to develop breast cancer.
