MARGAO: South Goa police have booked altogether seven cases of kidnapping, mostly involving minors this year. The cops have been successful in cracking six cases.
In the seventh case, booked by the Konkan Railway police and pertaining to the alleged kidnapping of a three-year-old from Margao railway station on November 1, the child and kidnapper remain untraceable.
Margao, Cuncolim and Fatorda police booked two cases each of kidnapping in the current year, and investigations have been completed in all six cases. The latest is the one booked by the Fatorda police pertaining to the kidnapping of four minor students from Ambaji, Fatorda, last week. The four class XII students were taken by the alleged accused to an unknown place and kept in captivity for three-and-a-half hours.
The accused called up the respective parents and demanded Rs 70,000 each for their release. The family agreed to pay the amount and the students were rescued from the clutches of their captors, who were arrested.
Konkan Railway police have, however, failed to make any headway into the child kidnapping case. South Goa police had formed three teams tasked with tracing the missing child. One team that camped in Mumbai for over a week returned clueless about the whereabouts of the child and its captor. The minor girl went missing from platform No. 1 of the Margao railway station during the intervening night of October 31 and November 1.
CCTV footage revealed that the girl was kidnapped by a person while she, along with her family, were asleep.
