ALBANY — While responding to a call of an overdose in the parking lot of the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Albany firefighters saw one of the three individuals presumed to have overdosed crash his sedan into a Coca-Cola truck.

"While en route to (the overdose call), the fire department observed a crash at Grove and New Scotland," Albany Police public information officer Steve Smith said Monday evening.

Smith said a 19-year-old man will be charged with driving under the influence of drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors, after he apparently left the parking lot of the pharmacy college and crashed his car while headed west on New Scotland Avenue near Grove Avenue.

Police are not releasing the name of the driver at this time.

The driver was one of the three individuals who reportedly overdosed, Smith added. The incidents occurred at about 2 p.m. Monday. It's unclear what drugs the people may have overdosed on.

Smith said the man, who wasn't wearing his seat belt, suffered injuries to his head and face, and was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital for further evaluation. The driver also was ticketed for not wearing his seat belt and speeding, he said.

The other two individuals were located in the college parking lot and also taken to Albany Med for evaluation, Smith said.
