Pro-AL ‘Blue panel’ sweeps DUTA polls

The pro-Awami League blue panel bagged 14 out of 15 executive committee posts in the Dhaka University Teachers Association election.

Prof. ASM Maksud Kamal of blue panel has been reelected as President and Prof. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam as General Secretary.

The voting was held between 10:00am to 2:00pm on Monday at the Dhaka University Teachers’ Club.

In the polls, BNP-Jamaat backed white panel bagged one post.  

Maksud Kamal bagged 949 votes while Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam 725 votes.

Prof M Imdadul Haque, was elected as the vice president while Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed as treasurer and Prof Tajin Aziz Chowdhury as joint secretary.

The elected members from blue panel are: Prof Muhammad Samad, Prof M Aftab Ali Seikh, Prof M Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, Prof Md Ziaur Rahman, Prof Sabita Rezwana Rahman, Associate Prof Chandra Nath Podder, Prof Sadeka Halim, Prof Zeenat Huda, Prof Soumitra Sekhar Dey, and Prof Md Hasanuzzaman from pro-BNP White panel.

Election Commissioner Professor Tofayel Ahmed Chowdhury, also a teacher of Chemistry Department, announced the results in the afternoon.

“Out of the 2010 voters, 1502 cast their votes,” he said.
