Situation in the village became tensed on Monday morning as locals swarmed the temple. A probe is under way on the issue.
BJP MLA Pranjit Singha Roy visited the spot and said that such incidents took place earlier too. He blamed the state government for its inaction, as police have not made any arrests so far.
Gomoti District CPI(M) leader Keshab Majumder accused the BJP for the incident. He said, "The BJP wants communal riot in the peaceful state, that’s why they are provoking the people."
In a similar incident last month, a goddess Kali temple from Ranjit Nagar area and another from Bashpukur area under the Sepahijala district were destroyed. The Bashpukur area falls under CM Manik Sarkar's constituency.
