Seahawks Jefferson restrained during altercation with fans

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Quinton Jefferson attempted to jump into the stands during a confrontation with fans in Jacksonville near the end of his team's 30-24 defeat to the Jaguars on Sunday. Jefferson had been ejected and was leaving the field when he appeared to be hit by an object tossed by a spectator, triggering his attempt to climb into the stands that was thwarted by Seahawks staff and security personnel.

National Hockey League roundup

The St. Louis Blues placed forward Jaden Schwartz on injured reserve with a right ankle injury and he will be re-evaluated in six weeks, the team announced Sunday. Schwartz sustained the injury when he blocked a shot in the Blues' 6-1 win over the Red Wings on Saturday in Detroit. He had to be helped off the ice after suffering the injury, which occurred late in the first period, and was not able to put any pressure on his right leg.

Former Tigers Morris, Trammell elected to Hall of Fame

Former Detroit Tigers stars Jack Morris and Alan Trammell were elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday by the Modern Era Baseball committee. Morris, a pitcher, and Trammell, a shortstop, both failed to gain entry during their 15 years on the regular ballot. Morris gained two-thirds of the vote in 2012 -- his 13th time on the ballot -- but didn't receive the required 75 percent in either of his final two years.

Leaders Manchester City go 11 points clear on derby day

Manchester City beat Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford to go 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday while Liverpool and Everton drew 1-1 in a snowswept Merseyside derby at Anfield. City's victory marked the first time a team have won 14 consecutive English top-flight games in the same season and ended United's run of 40 home games unbeaten in all competitions.

Alpine skiing: Vonn pulls out of Super G race

American Lindsey Vonn pulled out of Sunday's Super G World Cup race at St Moritz, saying she needed to take care of herself in the run-up to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in two months' time. The race itself was later called off due to bad weather.

Baseball: Ohtani introduced by Angels amid high expectations

Shohei Ohtani said he had felt "something click" with the Los Angeles Angels as his reason for joining the team when being introduced at Anaheim Stadium on Saturday. The Angels won a heated race to sign the coveted 23-year-old Japanese, both a starting pitcher and an accomplished batter, who was introduced to raucous applause from cheering fans.

Boxing: Lomachenko stops Rigondeaux to retain WBO world title

Vasyl Lomachenko retained his WBO super-featherweight title with a sixth round technical knockout of Guillermo Rigondeaux in New York City on Saturday, the impressive Ukrainian handing the Cuban-born American his first professional defeat. The highly-anticipated duel between a pair of double Olympic champions resulted in an anti-climatic finish, however, when Rigondeaux, citing a hand and wrist injury, told the referee that he did not want to continue prior to the seventh round.

Alpine skiing: Hirscher defies difficult conditions to win slalom

Six-times overall World Cup winner Marcel Hirscher defied difficult conditions to win the slalom at Val d'Isere on Sunday. The Austrian, who broke his ankle in pre-season training in August but now looks fully recovered, was only eighth fastest after the first leg in heavy snow and poor visibility.
