Three persons and a juvenile at Balia village in the Kujang area were arrested and forwarded to court in connection with murder of a womanon Saturday.
The accused persons comprised a juvenile and her mother Minati Behera, aunt Jayanti Patra form Balia village and one Naresh Pradhan, a resident of Saharadia village under Kujang police limits. They were performing sorcery to cure a woman of some disease but finally killed her.
Reports said that Rashmita Nayak (married) from Sasanpada village under Patkura area in Kendrapada district had developed unusual behaviour in last few months. Consequently, she was brought to Balia village in Kujanga for performance of sorcery to cure her.
The juvenile sorcerer along with her mother, aunt and kin started beating the woman as part of their healing exercise to cure her as they said the women had been haunted by some evil spirit.
The four lodged the woman for four days and canned her all through. As a result, she died on Saturday. Her brother lodged a complaint with Kujanga police station stating her sister was murdered by the juvenile sorcerer and her associate's family members.
Acting with the complaint, police rushed to the spot and recovered Rashmita's body and arrested the four accused.
