Despite thousands of human rights violation cases pending before State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) in Jharkhand, the organisation believes that such cases in the State are decreasing.

Amid various organisations discussing issues on the occasion of Human Rights Day of human rights violation in State, which has remained a serious issue according to many experts and workers in the field, SHRC Secretary said on Sunday that cases were being expedited swiftly after new Chairman of the organisation took over.

“There are thousands of pending cases before the Commission as of now, and the organisation is hearing cases on daily basis.

However, I must say that number of fresh cases during the year have reduced considerably. Awareness towards human rights is being spread through various agencies and the situation is not that much terrible in the State as might be assumed from outside, or in comparison to many other states,” said Das.

However, experts believe that the Government machinery is very much responsible for so many cases of human rights violation in State, especially in terms of custodial deaths and mob-lynching cases. Social Activist Dayamani Barla said in a discussion during the day that government had completely failed in protecting human rights in State.

“The irony is that State has appeared completely ignorant towards cases of deaths due to mob-lynching in various parts of State in recent times. Sometimes the administration has apparently failed to prevent some cases to happen, and has even appeared adding fuel to the fire due to petty political interests of their bosses. We will have to take a call of not allowing us to remain mere spectators of human rights violation cases,” said Barla.

Social Activist PP Verma took the example of Lalpur roadside vegetable vendors in city to substantiate government’s ill-planning and its anarchist approach in creating chaos and human rights’ violation cases. He however expressed hope of people becoming more and more aware of their rights like never before.

He also said that human rights violation occurred more due to someone considering itself suppressing other as only way to have peace around.

“No one in Government, regardless which party it comes from, appears thinking about the poor and downtrodden. Life and livelihood of vegetable sellers are more important than space for luxurious vehicles. And this is just an example. I am sure the agencies working for

well-being of people will take preamble of Constitution of India seriously,” added Verma in a programme on human rights violation where so called suppression of Muslims in the State and elsewhere was discussed at length by fraternity leaders.
