VISAKHAPATNAM: Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated `8.5-crore development works at Chepaluppada, his adopted village, of Bheemili mandal on Saturday. Venkaiah Naidu also promised houses for 200 more homeless families in the village soon.On the occasion, Venkaiah Naidu said that while some of the development works were done by Swarna Bharathi Trust, which was run by his daughter, others are done by CSR activities and even the state government at his request. The development works include drinking water connection from GVMC source to Chepaluppada with `67 lakh with the help of GVMC, Anganwadi school building at Pukkellapalem, solid waste processing centre with NREGS funds, gram panchayat building and interneal CC roads with `16 lakh under Chandrannabata scheme.

“After the Hudhud devastation, Chepaluppada was one of most affected villages and that is why I decided to adopt it through Swarna Bharathi Trust. I also learnt that around 200 families still are homeless and assure them to get houses soon after discussing the issue with the government. The villagers informed me that there were several issues with pensions, oil subsidy for fishing boats and they also need a burial ground. I have spoken to the district collector and would resolve all the probelms,” Venkaiah Naidu said.

He also added that a community health Centre (CHC) will be set up with a permanent doctor, apart from focusing on providing employment to the youngsters in the village. Meanwhile, Venkaiah Naidu also sought to change the name of the village. He said that he had suggested a few names like Sri Narayana Matsyapuri and Sri Krishna Matsyapuri. “With all such developments, the name should be unique now. Let village heads discuss and finally report it to the collector. The collector would write the same to the state government,” he added.

GMR group of industries chairman Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao said that with his foundation, he would be help provide training in works like air conditioner repairing, electrical works and tailoring. If the youngsters are good in it, the foundation would also make sure that they get some employment. For this training, the GMR team would visit the village, select candidates and provide training. Transportation, accommodation and food will be provided by the foundation itself, he said.
