Pune: The civic administration is likely to start working on the development plan (DP) for the recently merged 11 villages in the next month.
The DP will ensure reservations for public amenity spaces like gardens, schools, play grounds in merged villages and development of residential areas in a better manner.
The villages have been merged in PMC limits recently after the state government gave its approval. The entire process of the merger is expected to get over in the next few months.
The PMC has initiated steps to begin tax collection in new areas. Besides various surveys have been taken up. New areas attached to the civic limits include a complete merger of Phursungi and Uruli Devachi and part merger of the nine villages located in the peripheral areas of the city.
Sources in civic body said a proposal to prepare a separate DP for the merged areas was tabled before the city development committee.
The committee will start working on it in the next few days. Some clarifications are expected from the state government on drafting of the DP. These will come in the next few days, sources said.
A member of the city development committee said details of every village have been sought pertaining to land reservations, land use pattern and existing provisions of amenity spaces.
The new DP will be prepared based on existing facilities available at villages and further requirements. The whole idea to have a DP is to keep tabs on illegal constructions and encroachments.
The newly merged villages already have a lot of illegal constructions. Government land has been encroached upon. The civic administration will have a tough task while dealing with such challenges, an elected member said.
Local residents said the execution of the policy was a challenge before the civic administration. Amey Kale, who stays in newly merged area of Keshavnagar, said, "It will be good if the civic administration prepares a separate DP for the merged villages. The real challenge will be of its execution. A serious approach is required to avoid unplanned development," Kale further said.
