RAJSAMAND: Director general of police (DGP) Om Prakash Galhotra visited Rajsamand on Friday to supervise the investigation being conducted in the 'hate murder' of Afrazul, a labourer from West Bengal.
Galhotra visited the crime spot in the morning and held detailed discussions with special officers who have been assigned the investigation.
He also met a delegation of the Muslim community and assured them of speedy investigation and trial in the case. In a brief interaction with the media, Galhotra said that the state government was considering an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh to be given to the slain man's family and the announcement would follow soon.
Expressing satisfaction at the pace of investigation, the DGP said, "I am very happy with the way the investigation is progressing. We have gathered strong scientific and FSL evidences against the culprit and the chargesheet will be filed within a month."
He also added that it would be premature to say anything about the reasons behind committing the heinous act and the truth would come out when they complete the investigation.
Shambhulal's nephew sent to rehab home
Rajsamand: Being asked about measures being taken to prevent such incidents, he said the police would do everything to provide a secure environment.
Speaking on social media, Galhotra said, "Many foolish things go around in social media. Not only in this incident, but on many other occasions, we have seen that the things going around may not be reliable."
Meanwhile, the accused, Shambhulal Raigar, has been shifted from Delwara to Rajnagar police station for interrogation. Since his police remand ends on Sunday, the police may seek extension of custody for a few more days, sources claimed.
His nephew has been sent to the reformatory home in Udaipur. The police have also got the post-mortem report of Afrazul. The board of medical experts, who conducted the post-mortem, too was shocked to see the body. The report states severe internal head injuries and injuries to the body from sharp weapons to be the cause of death.
According to police sources, Shambulal had struck Affrazul with an axe on the back seven to eight times. The victim fell to the ground and when the axe got stuck in his back, he put his foot on Affrazul's body to pull it out.
