Astroturf : Balanced mind provides right lead

Addressing a gathering recently in Hyderabad, I posed a question before the audience: “Do you believe in God?” Majority said ‘yes’. I followed up with another question: “Have you seen God — male or female?” An old man in the audience responded: “What sort of a question is this? How can you see God, who is beyond us? But there has to be some unseen power in existence that created the world and would be sustaining it. Otherwise, such a complex world with all its diversity and enormity would not have been doing its round for so long.”

Mind it, Sir, when you have not seen God, then it is just a belief, carrying equal probability of being right or wrong.  And even assuming that God exists, how does it matter? If He is engaged in creation and sustenance of this world, He has been carrying on His task, and shall continue doing so unabated. He won’t need your prompting or seeking for Him to be propelled into actions due on His part. And it is difficult to digest that He will acknowledge and respond to individualistic seeking.

And even if we are to deny the existence of God, how does it matter? Life has to still keep moving on. Amidst this never-ending debate, what is important is to secure a qualitative existence, which doesn’t come about by default.  We have to consciously work towards that end. For, human beings enjoy the freedom to make choices. But when there is a choice option in hand, the probability of its use and misuse remains equal. To overcome this vulnerability, human beings are also endowed with the exclusive privilege of the faculty of discriminating intelligence. Applying which one could arrive at the right judgment and make most appropriate choices. Yet, human beings often become subject to pains and sufferings.  Why? For, human beings often make wrong choices, unmindfully though. Or are not able to intelligently deal with challenges posed by competing interests. But again, why?

Here comes into play our mind — the mover and shaker of a being. It is our mind which first defines one’s functional mandate and accordingly drives it. The paradox, however, is that mind as an instrument is a double-edged weapon — it could provide the most appropriate lead or may prove a trickster. And it is all dependent on how our minds are inherently framed, coming as it may with the Karmic carryover from the past. So, it is important to first know oneself and make timely corrections.  Given the choice option in hand, we are capable of it, provided we dispassionately identify and acknowledge our own fault lines. Once we purify our minds, we may understand the true callings of life. Even those keen to pursue divinity, it is important to purify the mind. Otherwise, one may get stuck in misplaced values and mess up one’s life.

Look at the astrological pointers of a woman having genuine spiritual urges, but driven primarily by her preconditioned mind, she has messed up her life. That is causing tremendous stress to her aging parents. Mercury, the lagna sub-lord (self), Jupiter, the 5th sub-lord (spiritual longings carried over from the past), and Saturn, the 9th sub-lord (desire for fresh higher learning), are well linked to each other. For, Jupiter extends its benevolent aspect on Mercury, and Saturn occupies the nakshatra owned by Mercury. This brings in the urge to pursue spirituality.

The problem, however, is that her mind indicator, Moon, which occupies the fiery and movable sign Aries, crosses path with Mars, Uranus, Saturn, and Venus. That makes her an impulsive, temperamental, unconventional, and a rebellious character, who may detest established norms and be keen to chart out her own path. She may jump into action without applying proper forethought. Read together with her swaggering ego, coming as it may with the Sun ill-disposed off to Jupiter, she passionately pursues her whims and fancies. Moon in opposition to Venus makes her too much emotionally touchy, who gets provoked even on trivial issues.

On top of that, Saturn is ill-disposed to Mercury and Moon. That speaks of her fixated one-track mind. Also, with her negative mindset, she will play the victim card when placed in a difficult situation. Consequently, her wandering mind is yet to find the right lead in life despite having already entered her Fifties.

To sum up, pursue God or not, what is more important is to first shape the mind. Otherwise, life will be in peril.
