Union Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh visited the Head Office of NMDC Limited at Hyderabad on Saturday, a NMDC press release informed.
The Minister reviewed NMDC’s performance in a meeting with N. Baijendra Kumar, IAS, CMD; Dr Narendra K Nanda, Director (Technical); PK Satpathy, Director (Production); Dr TRK Rao, Director (Commercial); DS Ahluwalia, Director (Finance); Sandeep Tula, Director (Personnel), NMDC; Saraswati Prasad, Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor, Ministry of Steel; Sunil Barthwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel and Senior Officials of NMDC.
Singh appreciated NMDC’s performance and achievements and also said that the inaugural function of the Diamond Jubilee Year has become a bench mark for all PSEs.
“NMDC, being one of the largest miners in India must focus on increasing iron ore production, this will have the twin benefit of keeping prices in check and ensuring equitable supply of raw material to big and small producers,” he said.
To achieve the target of enhanced production capacity to 67 million tonnes iron ore by 2021-22, there needs to be visible incremental increase in production in consecutive years. NMDC needs to have a strategic vision and plan for the same, Singh said.
Minister advised NMDC to get a strategic plan prepared for long-term vision. He emphasized to increase focus on explanation of all minerals not only in India but also overseas.
The Minister also stressed the importance of having slurry pipeline network to address the evacuation issue and this will also not only help the large steel makers but also the secondary steel producers.
