The MP who visited the railway station on Saturday and had a discussion with the station authorities, told reporters that the Tumakuru-Davangere and the Tumakuru-Rayadurga tracks were being laid.
As the number of passengers commuting by rail had increased, the basic facilities provided at stations for them must also be upgraded the MP said.
Gowda visited the Shantinagar underpass, Baddhalli railway underpass and Kyatsandra railway station had procured information from the authorities.
He said that over 10000 passengers come to the Tumakuru railway station and 46 trains pass through the station each day. From Bengaluru alone, over 1500 passengers commuting between Tumakuru and the capital, are dependent on the services he added.
The rail authorities informed the MP that the Baddihalli -Manjunathnagar underpass work would begin soon and Upparahalli underpass work is done. The Shantinagar underpass is partly over and the other tender has been called for the unfinished portion.
The MP said that the rail authorities had brought the shortage of Railway police staff to his notice and that he would discuss the matter with the centre and organise deployment of adequate police officers for the Tumakuru station.
