However, the enquiry kept a snail's pace due to the alleged influence of a group of powerful politicians. But after the change of the guard in Dispur, the CID's enquiry received dynamism. A few days ago, the CID arrested the then officer-in-charge of the Sonarpur police station and the inquiry officer of the murder case on charges of destruction of evidence of the crime. Later, the court remanded the duo to judicial custody.
Atul Bora, MLA of the Dispur constituency, in a press meet of late, alleged that the brutal murder occurred at the instance of former minister Akon Bora. MLA Bora further alleged the former minister wanted to build a five star hotel near the home of the victim's family. Interestingly, earlier, the local people had alleged that Dr Dhaniram Barooah, whose research laboratory is situated near the area where the victim family lived, was behind the despicable crime.
However, when the close aide of the former minister Bora opened his mouth, the entire case took a new turn. Before that, some people of the locality ransacked and vandalized Dr Barooah's laboratory only on suspicion.
In the meanwhile, the investigation agency has identified the prime suspect in the crime. But the accused identified as Arjun Bordoli of the Sonapur area died under mysterious circumstance a few years back. Besides, some eyewitnesses of the crime, reportedly, changed their version during the enquiry.
