Liverpool vs Everton: Jamie Carragher slams Sadio Mane for huge moment in Merseyside derby

LIVERPOOL star Sadio Mane would have sealed a Merseyside derby win for his side if he did not waste his glorious chance in the first half of today’s match against Everton at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Everton: Carragher was not happy with Sadio Mane, who wasted a great chance at Anfield

That is the view of Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

Carragher was speaking at half time of the Merseyside derby clash at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah had given Liverpool a 1-0 lead but the hosts really should have been ahead by more.

Mane wasted a golden opportunity by choosing to shoot instead of laying it off for a tap in to three waiting team-mates.

Carragher was surprised in the Senegal international, especially after the unselfish nature of the goals in Liverpool’s 7-0 Champions League win over Spartak Moscow on Wednesday.

It should be all over, Mane should have passed the ball

But he could not stop himself from having dig at Sam Allardyce's side for their defensive performance.

“It should be (all over), Mane should have passed the ball,” Carragher said.

“This is the problem when Everton push up the pitch, I mean if Everton go any deeper today they will be in Stanley Park.

“The problem is if they do push up, then they’ve got that (chance of being caught out), but they have to.

“The brilliant thing midweek was the unselfishness.

“I think Alan Smith mentioned it in commentary, I don’t think it’s a case of Mane being greedy, I just think he thinks that’s the better thing.

“Obviously Ashley Williams goes flying in, that’s the problem Everton have got now, they have to push up.

“Gary Neville’s right, Everton have been embarrassing.

“It looks like they have been playing for touch. Every time Jordan Pickford gets it he just smashes it up the pitch and it goes out for a thrown in.”

Wayne Rooney equalised from the penalty spot to claim a valuable point for Everton.
