Vadodara: With less than a week to go for elections, the city police have started to tighten the noose around bootleggers. After arresting Vikram Chavda, the city police detained another notorious bootlegger Lalji Rabari under Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA) late on Saturday night.

Rabari, who has around 15 cases of prohibition against him, had got anticipatory bail. Police said that Rabari had remained present before them when he was called for questioning, however his bootlegging activities had not stopped. According to police sources, instead of his arrest they detained him since his bail order did not have condition that he cannot be detained under PASA.

Late on Saturday night cops picked up Rabari from his house at Wadi. Police sources said that his family members reached Wadi police station and argued with cops. A police official said that Rabari was sent to Bhuj jail under detention. A month ago a team of assistant commissioner of police (E division) had raided Rabari's premises and had seized liquor in large quantity.

In October, Rabari escaped narrowly after a car he was driving carrying beer cans met with an accident on Ahmedabad-Vadodara express highway. While Rabari had escaped from there, his accomplice was arrested.
