Liverpool news LIVE updates: Weather update, Salah to Real Madrid, Everton build up

LIVERPOOL news is coming thick and fast and Express Sport is on hand to bring you all of the latest from Anfield ahead of Sunday's Merseyside derby.

Liverpool news LIVE updates: All of the latest from Anfield

Sunday December 10

Could the Merseyside derby be cancelled?

11.35: The weather in the north has put today’s Super Sunday at risk with the Merseyside derby under threat.

Heavy snow is set to cause travel chaos for fans and could "cut off" rural communities across the UK as Storm Caroline plunges the country into a cold snap.

The Met Office issued an amber warning for snow across large swathes of the UK as heavy snowfall is expected to continue throughout the day.

And Paddy Power have reacted by slashing the odds of both derbies to be cancelled.

The bookmaker offers odds of 10/1 that the Merseyside derby is called off and 12/1 that the top-of-the-table clash between Manchester United and City is postponed too.

It's 66/1 that all three of today’s Premier League matches have to be re-scheduled, including Southampton vs Arsenal.

Liverpool vs Everton: The Merseyside derby is in doubt due to the weather

Klopp demands focus

08:50: Jurgen Klopp says his Liverpool payers need to forget about their 7-0 win against Spartak Moscow when Everton visit Anfield.

The manager wrote in his column for ‘This is Anfield’: “Wednesday evening was very enjoyable for us and very significant. It was another marker of our progress, another step forward we make together. I like how we greet these challenges so far.

“When big moments come, this team finds an answer. But I think we find that answer because we concentrate all our energy and focus into that job. We do not allow any distraction of thinking what might be in the future.

“To be consistently successful at this level – with the intensity that comes from each and every week facing the highest-quality opponent – you have to focus all your physical and mental energy on the one task in front of you: the one thing you can affect in that moment.

“Today, here at Anfield, that is Everton. How we played against Spartak Moscow, the goals we scored and the result we got is now only information we can use. It cannot help us win a single tackle or header today.

“The watch returns to zero and we must go again. That means all of us, everyone at the club.

“Of course today is not just another football fixture, we know this. It is ‘the derby’. We play our neighbours and a club who shares this amazing city with us. I learned very early on that the best way to approach derby matches – games against great rivals – is to embrace what comes with it, not to ignore it.

“Matches like this are emotional and the key to doing well in them is to draw from the positive emotion; embrace that it really matters to everyone involved and give everything you have to make sure the outcome for you and your team is positive.

“In these sort of games you have to be able to say, when it is done, that you did everything you could for your supporters.”

Coutinho should have gone

21.00: Liverpool should have let Philippe Coutinho join Barcelona in the summer, according to former Reds striker Rickie Lambert.

"I’m probably gonna get a little bit of stick for this but I think Liverpool should have let him go,” he told Radio 5 Live.

"If he asked to go, I know it was late in the transfer window and I can understand why we kept hold of him.

"But, if he’s made the effort to come out and say he wants to go, [after] everything that he’s done for the club, I thought he would have been allowed to go."

Liverpool eye winger

17.40: Liverpool want to sign Federico Martinez according to the Sun.

The young winger has impressed at Montevideo in Uruguay and has been shortlisted by Jurgen Klopp.

He has had Liverpool scouts watch him and he could be on the move in January.

Swansea, West Ham and Everton are also monitoring him though while there is thought to be interest from Europ

£120m Coutinho bid

15:15: Liverpool may decide to sell Philippe Coutinho in January.

According to the Liverpool Echo, if a bid around £120m was made, it would be considered by the Reds hierarchy.

Barcelona have not dropped their interest in Coutinho and the player himself was coy about his future on Wednesday.

Weather warning

12.50: Liverpool have sent their fans a weather warning ahead of the Merseyside derby.

The games on Sunday have been thrown into some doubt due to the inclement weather in the UK.

But Liverpool insist the games is to go ahead as planned but have warned the fans to allow extra time for their journey.

“Due to the inclement weather forecast on Sunday, Liverpool FC would like to remind supporters to take extra care when travelling to Anfield and encourage fans to plan their journey in advance,” a statement read.

“Supporters are encouraged to arrive at the stadium early and check the Merseytravel and Merseyrail websites for any updates before they travel.

“Sunday's game against Everton is planned to go ahead. Any further updates will be issued on www.liverpoolfc.com.”

Youngster signs deal

12:15: Liverpool today announced goalkeeper Kamil Grabara put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.

The Pole, who joined the Reds from Ruch Chorzow in 2016, has featured for the club's U18s, U19s and U23s sides since his arrival.

Grabara told Liverpoolfc.com: "Obviously, I’m proud, I’m really happy.

"I just give everything I’ve got every single day in the sessions and push myself as hard as I can."

Ings battle

10.45: Danny Ings is being tracked by six Premier League clubs.

The former Burnley ace is set to spark a January scramble when the transfer window reopens.

The Guardian report that  West Ham, Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Stoke, Brighton and West Brom are all eyeing him up for a potential move.

Moreno injury update

09.30: Alberto Moreno is set to miss the Christmas period after picking up an injury against Spartak Moscow.

The Liverpool defender was injured during the 7-0 Champions League win.

He will miss the Merseyside derby with Andrew Robertson expected to come in.

And it it believed he could miss the rest of the month but Jurgen Klopp wants more time to get him assessed.

“We need to have further assessment,” said Klopp.

“So far it could be everything. I cannot say much about it. It’s a very rare thing. So far the specialists aren’t sure; but if it’s in a week or so or a little bit longer so we have to wait for that. There’s a little damage around the tendons.”

Liverpool line-up to face Everton

08:00: As if you needed any reminding, Liverpool take on Everton in the Merseyside derby tomorrow.

So how will they line-up? We've got a handy predicted teams gallery below to bring you through the Reds side.

Daniel Sturidge Spanish adventure

03:30: Real Betis are reportedly lining up a swoop for out-of-favour Liverpool striker Daniel Sturbridge.

The England international has seen game time increasingly limited at Anfield this season, which is in part down to the form of the ‘Fab Four’ - Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho.

And according to Spanish paper El Gol Digital, Betis are stepping up their interest with star striker Antonio Sanabria.

With the 21-year-old out of action, the La Liga outfit are eager to fill the hole.

The publication suggests Betis are confident of striking a short-term deal with the Reds to take Sturridge until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal then to follow.

Philippe Coutinho message

01:15: Jurgen Klopp has conceded nothing will stop the Barcelona speculation going away but insists he will do everything he can to ensure Philippe Coutinho continues to thrive at Liverpool.

The Catalan giants are expected to table a fresh offer for the Brazilian, who has been instrumental for the Reds over the past few seasons.

And Klopp thinks Coutinho is best off staying put, as he said: “Nothing will ever stop these rumours but I have nothing to say about them. That won't change.

"What the Liverpool manager did point out is those flourishing have done so in the perfect environment - something they may not find so easily elsewhere.

“I'm pretty sure the players know about their development here.”

Inter want Can

23:30: Inter Milan have joined the race to sign Liverpool midfielder Emre Can, reports claim.

According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Inter boss Luciano Spalletti is a huge admirer of the midfield anchor, and wants him at the San Siro next season.

The Germany international looks increasingly likely to leave the Reds when his current deal runs out in the summer.

Messi blocks Griezmann but approves Coutinho deal

21:00: Barcelona star Lionel Messi has reportedly learned Ernesto Valverde wants three transfers - but the Argentina international is far from happy about it.

Barcelona are desperate to strengthen the squad, with the club’s coffers bursting from Neymar’s £200million move to PSG back in August.

And Diario Gol claim that, while Messi has approved two of Valverde’s three potential deals, it is the signing of Antoine Griezmann that has not sat well with Barcelona’s main man.

The 30-year-old is supposedly backing their bid to sign Liverpool ace Philippe Coutinho, and he is also happy for Barcelona to sign a replacement for Javier Mascherano.

Liverpool can’t guarantee Coutinho will stay

19:30: This isn’t the news Reds want to hear on the weekend of the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool CEO Peter Moore says the club cannot guarantee Philippe Coutinho will still be at Anfield in January.

The Brazil international was frustrated when his transfer request was rejected in the summer as the club rebuffed three bids from Barcelona.

"We made one statement last year and the player is not for sale and that is the statement the ownership made," Moore told Sky Sports News.

"Me adding to that, every day you see stories emanating from Spain that Barcelona, or whomever, are coming back for Philippe Coutinho.

"As far as I am concerned, the squad we have right now is the squad we are going to go into January with. And I do not have a crystal ball, so I do not know what is going to happen.”

Balague talks Salah to Real Madrid

19:00: Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is not on Real Madrid’s radar at the moment, according to Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague.

Salah has been a huge Liverpool hit since signing from Serie A giants Roma for £34million back in the summer.

The Egypt international, who struggled during a previous stint in England with Chelsea, has bagged a stunning 18 goals from 23 games for Jurgen Klopp’s side so far.

As a result, Salah has been tipped to join Real Madrid, who are supposedly keen to bring him in as part of an overhaul of the squad.

But Spanish football expert Balague thinks the La Liga giants are prioritising two other deals instead, and that Salah is not currently a transfer target.

“At this moment in time I understand Salah is not on Real Madrid’s radar. They are looking to bring in goalkeeper Kepa and a striker once Bale’s future is decided,” he told Sky Sports.

“Those two situations need to be sorted before we know exactly what Real Madrid are doing.”

Suarez to Ajax?!

18:30: I think we can safely file this story in the ‘not happening’ cabinet…

Luis Suarez has received numerous offers to leave Barcelona including one from his former club Ajax, according to reports in Spain.

The report says Suarez is open to the idea of a return to Holland where he enjoyed four hugely successful years prior to his move to Liverpool in 2011.

Ajax are reportedly offering him one last big contract with the view to him seeing out the latter stages of his career with the Amsterdam club.

Suarez is said to have made Lionel Messi aware of the offer and has asked his team-mate for advice.

And the Barca legend is said to have told him to forget about leaving the Npu Camp as he enjoys being his strike partner.

Ings wanted

18:00: Liverpool forward Danny Ings has received admiring glances from at least four Premier League clubs considering a January loan offer, The Guardian reports.

West Ham, Crystal Palace, Stoke and Newcastle are tipped to make a move for Ings in the new year.
