1928 hrs IST: Everton had played their Europa League game against Apollon Limassol with a second string side and still came back with a 2-0 win. Liverpool are blasting in goals from all sides. Both teams have hit a good patch of form. Meanwhile there have been doubts as to whether this match and the Manchester Derby would happen at all because of snow. Those fears seem to have been allayed.

1915 hrs IST: So this what is at stake: Liverpool have a chance to open four-point gap between them and Tottenham Hotspur at fifth place. Moreover, if they do get into their free-scoring mode, something they have been in for the past two matches, Liverpool can also replace Chelsea at third place on goal difference. If they draw the match they remain third with their  Then they would be three points behind Manchester United but still 11 behind Manchester City until the Manchester giants play that is. If Everton manage a first win in nearly two decades at Anfield today, they will get within one point of Watford at ninth. A loss on the other hand would keep them at tenth with the chasing pack close on their heels.

1901 hrs IST: That Liverpool squad is a peculiar one indeed. Coutinho, Firmino and Emre Can are on the bench alongwith Danny Ings who is in any Liverpool squad for the first time since September. You may be forgiven for forgetting that he was playing for Liverpool. Quite a head scratcher from Jurgen Klopp. Everton just make one change from their last league match, Niasse is in for Aaron Lennon.

1848 hrs IST: Teams

1845 hrs IST: Hello and welcome to our coverage of the not so ‘Friendly’ derby, Liverpool vs Everton. Everton come into this match on the back of three back-to-back wins while Liverpool have scored 12 goals in their last two matches against Brighton and Spartak Moscow. The Toffees’ run started with a win against West Ham United that was inspired by Wayne Rooney’s hat-trick with the third goal being walloped in from his own half. While they have had troubles in all departments this season, Liverpool’s chief source of despair has been a soft backline.

Everton have not won at Anfield since 1999. Add to that the tension between Sam Allardyce and Jurgen Klopp (“He’s a soft German,” said Allardyce after his Crystal Palace side beat Liverpool in 2015, “With Sam, I have a kind of history,” Klopp admits later) and the fact that Everton really don’t have anything to lose in this match while Liverpool have a gap to open over Tottenham and a potential third spot to jump to; ladies and gentlemen, we have a proper match here.
