Liverpool vs Everton: Michael Owen slams referee for penalty... Twitter hits back in style

MICHAEL OWEN has hit out at referee Craig Pawson for his Merseyside derby performance.

Michael Owen was in for some abuse after criticising the referee

Pawson awarded Everton a late penalty which Wayne Rooney dispatched to level the tie.

Dejan Lovren pushed Dominic Calvert-Lewin to the ground to give away the spot kick.

Mohamed Salah had opened the scoring before Rooney struck from 12 yards.

But Owen thought it was a bad decision.

“Can’t believe Craig Pawson has given that. Such a soft pen,” Owen tweeted.

However judging from the response to Owen’s tweet most agreed with the referee.

“Calvert Lewin entitled to make the most out of it. Just as you did v Argentina in World Cup,” Thomas Hewitt said.

Arthur McConville tweeted: “Same foul was giving involving the same players out the field.soft or not a foul is a foul.”

Gas Cottom said: “Might be a soft one but why has Lovren even given the ref a decision to make there?”

Steve Whiston said: “You would have 100% gone down for it!!”
