Strictly Come Dancing 2017: The Saturdays’ singer Mollie King axed amid huge AJ revelation
STRICTLY COME DANCING contestant Mollie King was finally given the chop on tonight’s show following weeks of struggling to maintain her place in the competition.
The next celebrity to be let go from the BBC stalwart, the 30-year-old pop star fought to prove her skill on the ballroom dance floor alongside professional partner AJ Pritchard.
Yet it wasn’t enough, as tonight’s semi-final saw the blonde bombshell drop into the bottom two where she was forced to enter the dance off against Emmerdale star Gemma Atkinson and Aljaž Skorjanec.
While the judging panel conceded that Mollie had much improved upon her original performance, which was a lilting Waltz to Sarah McLachlan’s Angel, Gemma, 33, still had the edge with her powerful Tango set to 1980s classic My Sharona by The Knack.
When asked to explain his decision, Craig Revel-Horwood admitted: “Both couples neck and neck, both couples ballroom which is unusual, both couples I think pulled out all the stops tonight, but for me the couple that had the edge… Gemma and Aljaž.”

AJ, you have been just incredible and you have been my hero for the last couple of months
Former ballerina Darcey Bussell added: “Well both couples made a great great improvement but the couple that was more assured and more confident was Gemma and Aljaž.”
Clearly suffering from the devastating disappointment, Mollie put on a brave face and gushed about her experience on the show, congratulating the finalists.
She said: “Thank you to everyone who has voted us through to the semi-finals, it’s so far beyond what we ever thought that would happen; I’m so so grateful for that. Thank you to all the professionals, you have been so much fun and so encouraging.
“Thank you to the judges, you have just been unbelievable and I will forever remember everything that you said and I will take it on board when I’m dancing at home or wherever I’m dancing.”

The star went on to save her best praise for her partner, the 23-year-old she’s been hotly reported to have embarked on a relationship with behind the scenes.
“AJ, you have been just incredible and you have been my hero for the last couple of months so thank you so much,” Mollie continued. “I couldn’t have done any of it without you.”
Next week’s final of the hugely-popular series will see Gemma, former magician’s assistant Debbie McGee, 59, Holby City star Joe McFadden, 42, and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, 29, battling it out for the coveted Glitterball Trophy.
The Strictly Come Dancing final airs on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
