‘Call it a day mate’ James DeGale trolled by rival George Groves after shock loss

THINGS went from bad to worse for James DeGale after he was trolled by hated rival George Groves, following his shock defeat.

“Call it a day mate, you ain't got it no more”

DeGale, 31, was installed as a massive 1-100 favourite to defeat unheralded Caleb Truax in his first fight back from shoulder surgery.

Before defending his IBF super-middleweight title at the Copper Box in London on Saturday night, DeGale had talked up future fights against Groves and Chris Eubank jr.

But “Chunky” will be forced to go back to the drawing board after losing on points to the American, who only took up boxing to pay off his student loan.

Judges gave Truax the majority decision, with scores of 114-114, 115-112 and 116-112.

Shortly following the fight, Groves was quick to mock his long-term rival on Twitter.

He wrote: “Call it a day mate, you ain’t got it no more [sic].”

After beating DeGale on a majority decision, Groves has maintained a fierce rivalry with the Olympic gold medalist, with the two constantly trading insults.

Speaking after the fight, DeGale immediately called for a rematch, and claimed that he may have returned to the ring too soon following surgery.

TOO SOON? DeGale stated he should have waited for his comeback fight

He said: ““I rushed back, maybe I should have waited ‘till next year. I haven’t boxed at a high level for such a long time.

“I will go back to the drawing board. I thought I won it. We will have to go back and look at it.”
