The first container was lifted at the fourth-phase wharf of the Yangshan deep-water port in Shanghai on Sunday, marking the start of the operation of the world's largest automated cargo wharf after three years of construction.
The first container was lifted to the ground by a crane and carried by a driverless automatic guided vehicle (AGV), which is totally powered by electricity with self-navigation and can automatically avoid obstacles.
The complete automation of the wharf is supported by a strong positioning system.
