Update: Railway talks fail, unions vow to continue strike
The second round of discussions between striking railway unions and President's Secretary Austin Fernando ended without reaching a consensus this evening. 

The trade unions said that they would continue their strike until the issues raised by them are solved.

Crucial discussion to end railway strike underway

The Railway strike which was initiated by several railway trade unions, based on several demands including a solution for salary anomalies continued today (10).

However, a crucial discussion was underway between striking trade unions and President's Secretary Austin Fernando this evening.

Our correspondent said that all representatives of railway trade unions were at the discussion.

Meanwhile, the Railway's Main Control Room revealed that even though 10 train turns were planned, only two were operated today.
Nearly 250 train turns were cancelled due to the strike during the day.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Transport Ashok Abeysinghe said that railway employees who do not report to duty within the next 24 hours will be considered as vacated their posts.

He also requested the employees to return to work without inconveniencing the GCE (O/L) students.

The exam begins on Tuesday.
