Jaipur: The cybercrime police station on Sunday arrested a Nigerian national living in Delhi illegally for allegedly duping nearly Rs 60 lakh from a city man after getting the latter to invest in some herbal seed business. The accused is part of an international nexus of cons and had committed similar crimes in other states.

According to police, the victim, identified as Narayan Das (68), registered a complaint at the cybercrime police station on December 4.

In the complaint, Das said he met a man, identified as Glady Johnson, on the Facebook who duped him. "Johnson introduced himself as a purchase manager of an authentic pharma company and said that his company was interested in investing in India and purchasing herbal seeds. Later, the accused gave a mobile number of a woman, identified as Priya Chand, and asked him to contact her for final details," said superintendent of police (SP) Sharat Kaviraj, State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB).

The victim was continuously asked to pay the money in advance. The cons convinced the accused to deposit Rs 60 lakh in the account number given by them. "After he realized he was duped, he approached the cybercrime police station," an officer with the police station added.

The police team did a technical analysis and traced the account number of the accused to Delhi. "A team was sent to Delhi, and the accused, whose real name was Christian Sunday Okaro, was arrested from Nebsarai Madangir area of Delhi. It was also found that he came to India on a health visa which had expired and was living illegally in India," Kaviraj added.

The police team is interrogating him to find out if had committed similar crimes in Jaipur or any other part of Rajasthan.
