Mapusa: Byelections at three village panchayats in Pernem taluka were held peacefully on Sunday, recording an overall voting percentage of 91.77%. The three panchayats - Alorna, Casavarnem and Chandel-Hasapur - that went to polls had a combined electorate of 3,939 citizens, and 3,615 of these cast their votes to elect their grassroots level leaders.
In Alorna panchayat, seven wards including 1,175 citizens cast their votes, recording a voting percentage of 92.89 %.
In Casarvarnem, 939 persons from five wards exercised their voting rights, recording a voting percentage of 93.99 %.
In five wards of Chandel - Hasapur panchayat, a total of 1,501 persons turned out to vote, thus recording a voting percentage of 89.61 %.
Paliem recorded a voting percentage of 91.53 % with a total of 354 citizens casting their votes for the byelection to elect a member of the panchayat in ward number I .
Authorities said that no untoward incidents were reported from anywhere during the bypolls and the polling process was peaceful.
