Cuttack cops record sixth encounter in 8 months

The Commissionerate police here resorted to use of lethal force of “encounter” once again to pin a dreaded criminal, who was wanted by several police stations of the city for his alleged involvement in nefarious activities.

Tapan Nayak of Jobra is undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College Hospital here after he was injured in police firing on Friday night while trying to escape opening fire at the police. He has received a bullet injury in his right leg.

“The Malgodown police received information that Tapan and his associates were planning for an offensive at a secluded place. When police reached the spot, Tapan opened fire at them. He was injured when police retaliated,” said local ACP Trinath Mishra.

The criminal was involved in at least 12 cases registered at different PS of the city. This was the sixth police encounter in during past eight months in which the criminals are injured only in their legs in police firing.
