Free coaching scheme for SC, STs launched

The Delhi Government will now provide free of cost coaching to Schedule Caste (SC) and Schedule Tribe (ST) students preparing for various competitive examinations including the coveted civil service examination.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday launched “Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana” in a function organised by the Delhi Government to observe Parinirman Diwas of Dr BR Ambedkar at Talkatora Stadium.

Kejriwal said while launching the scheme , “We are translating the dreams of the people into action.”

He said that Ambedkar struggled throughout his light for the upliftment of the poor, downtrodden and have-nots. “Baba Saheb gave the call to the poor and SC/STs to be educated & united — our Government is ensuring education to all the SC/STs, OBC and Minorities in the government schools by providing up graded education,” he said.

Under which, free pre-coaching scheme will be rolled out for SC/ST students preparing for various examinations conducted by UPSC, DSSSB, SSC, Railway Recruitment Board (RRB)and other examinations. The beneficiaries would be the students belonging to SC communities in Delhi who have passed 10th and 12th from the schools of Delhi and whose total family income is not more than six lakh per annum.

One of the key features would be that the scheme will be implemented through the reputed institutes or centers, run by the registered private institutes or NGOs. The ratio of the students covered under this scheme from Government and Private Colleges will be 75 and 25 per cent respectively.

Also those preparing for banks and insurance companies and for pre-examination for medical and engineering education will be covered. Under this scheme 75 per cent  of admissible coaching fee will be provided by Government and remaining 25 per cent to be borne by students, however, in case of students having total family income upto 2 lakhs, full admissible coaching fee will be provided. Maximum sealing of the coaching fees will be upto Rs 40,000.

SC and ST Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said the decision will most probably be passed in a Cabinet meeting on December 12. Initially, the assistance will be started for 100 students and extended to 5,000 students, he said. SC students whose family income is less than Rs 2 lakh will be get 100 per cent assistance for entrance exam coaching, while families with income of Rs lakh will get 75 per cent assistance.

The Chief Minister also distributed loan cheques to the beneficiaries under different welfare loan schemes for members of the SC/ST/OBC/Minorities & PwD category who are residents of Delhi to start their own small ventures for making them economically self independent.

Labour Minister Gopal Rai, SC/ST Welfare Minister, Rajendar Pal Gautam, Deputy Speaker, Ms Rakhi Birla and Chief Secretary of Delhi, Anshu Prakash were also present.
