Panchkula: Despite of being loggerheads over taking the control of the Panchkula municipal corporation (MC), the councillors from Congress and BJP, on Saturday, signed a resolution declaring that they are against dissolving the corporation.
Mayor Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia said they have won the battle as 17 out of the 19 councillors signed the resolution and submitted to the chief minister Manohar Lal Khatttar alleging that they are in support of the present MC. 5 out of 6 councillors of Kalka and Pinjore have also signed in its favour.
Ahluwalia said BJP MLAs from Panchkula and Kalka, in past few days created certain circumstances after which Haryana CM hinted at dissolving the MC and retract it to a council.
She said, "Today 17 out of the 19 councillors, that is 89% of the house, have signed the resolution voting in favour of the present corporation. The battle is won. Only two councillors Krishan Lamba and C B Goyal have not signed in our favour."
She said the copy of the resolution has already been sent to Ambala divisional commissioner Vivek Joshi. Ahluwalia said, "BJP MLAs have been trying to dissolve the corporation since three years but they have not succeeded in their efforts. Councillors through their vote in the form of resolution have given their decision. MLAs have been propagating that there have been no developmental works but in past four years, we have spent over Rs 200 crore on developmental works."
The resolution reads,"Resolution passed by majority of 17 out of present strength of 19 elected members in support of the present MC. Further 5 out of 6 municipal members of Kalka, Pinjore have supported to continue with the present MC. However, this house is open for minor alteration of boundaries subject to Section 3 (3) of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, and Section 4 of the Haryana Municipal Act, 1973".
In the resolution, it was also demanded to upgrade the services and fill vacant posts to improve the efficiency of work in the MC.
