Margao: Stepping up the opposition against the central government's proposal of nationalization of rivers and MPT's expansion of coal handling project, gram sabhas of Loutolim, Orlim and Betalbatim in Salcete taluka expressed their resolve to vehemently oppose the two projects tooth and nail.

Heated discussions were witnessed at the gram sabhas on Sunday with villagers pointing out how the projects will lead to destruction of the environment and pollution of air and water bodies in the state.

The resolutions opposing the projects comes a day ahead of the meeting convened by chief minister Manohar Parrikar in Panaji with all stakeholders, including the sarpanchas of the village panchayats which have taken resolutions opposing the nationalization of rivers and MPT's coal handling activities in the state.
