Pune: A day after thieves made off with cash and valuables worth Rs4.12 lakh from six cars parked in different parts of the city, unknown persons stole five music systems from as many cars after smashing their windows.

The incident happened in Swargate and Bibvewadi in the early hours of Saturday.

Systems worth Rs92,000 were stolen from four cars in Salisbury Park area, while one player was stolen from a vehicle near Mahesh Society in Bibvewadi. Cases have been registered with Swargate and Bibvewadi police stations.

Umesh Pardeshi, a resident of Salisbury Park, who lodged the complaint with the Swargate police told TOI that he had parked his SUV along the road near his residential building. "Around 4.30am, a gang of thieves smashed the left front window of my vehicle and stole the music system," Pardeshi said.

Pardeshi said windows of three more cars were smashed and their music systems stolen. "Before the suspects could target one more car, a resident in the area woke up. As soon as he switched on the lights in his house, the suspect fled away in a car," Pardeshi said.

The witness later said suspects had come in a silver-coloured hatchback car, Pardeshi said.

"While removing the music system from the dash board, the suspects also has damaged the wiring system. Now we have to bear the expenses of the window glass as well as wiring and a new music system," Pardeshi lamented.

Around half-an-hour later, the suspects broke into Sunil Borkar's car near from Mahesh Society in Bibvewadi. An officer from the crime branch suspects the involvement of the same gang in both thefts. "We have been obtained CCTV footage from these areas to trace the car used by the suspects," the officer said.
