Youth scripts kidnap to hoodwink family

CUTTACK: The kidnap case of a Plus Two Science student of Ravenshaw Junior College, registered by his father in Chauliaganj police station, turned out to be false one. During investigation police found that the student, Soumyakant Das, scripted the kidnap to hoodwink his family and as well as police.DCP Akhilesvar Singh said, Das of Panisalia village was in love with his school friend, now a Plus Two Science student of Gadi Brahma Women’s College, Kaduapada in Jagatsinghpur district.

On December 4, both had a quarrel as Das suspected her of having an affair with another man. A depressed Das decided to commit suicide. On December 5, he went to his uncle’s house at Kalyani Nagar for tuitions at Chauliaganj took cyanide(about 60 to 70 numbers of green apple seeds) as alcoholic substances under depression and went towards Madhupatna square with a decision to commit suicide by jumping Kathajodi river bridge. He later changed his mind and took a bus to Bhubaneswar from Link Road. He got down at Ashok Nagar where attempted suicide in an intoxicated condition.

Later, some passersby handed him over to OAPF Constable R Mandal of Capital police station before whom he narrated the kidnap story.  After treatment at Capital Hospital, he was handed over to his father at Chauliaganj PS who filed an FIR alleging that his son was intoxicated and kidnapped by three masked men  in a car on December 5, who left him in an abandoned place.
