A day after Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, former Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, and many Akali workers, were booked for blocking traffic during a protest, the party on Sunday termed the ruling Congress government in Punjab as “repressive and incompetent”.
“The State government is resorting to repression to suppress democratic opposition in an attempt to distract attention from their betrayal of the Punjabis on the tall promises made to them during the recent Assembly election campaign,” said Sukhbir Badal.
He announced the setting up of a “Force for Democracy” with a minimum of 10 volunteers from every village — a total of 1,20,000 vigilantes against the Congress and ‘State repression’.
