UPSI appoints first woman registrar
IPOH: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) has appointed its Deputy Registrar of Human Resources Division Dr Zainab Othman as the Registrar of the university effective Nov 17.
In a statement today, UPSI said Zainab, 57, is the first woman to be appointed as the Registrar of the university after her appointment was confirmed by the UPSI board of directors on Dec 5.
"Zainab, who holds a Doctor of Philosophy in education from Nova Southeastern University of Florida, United States, was appointed to the post due to her extensive experience in administration, student management and corporate communications," it said.
The statement added Zainab, who is from Pekan, Pahang, started her service at UPSI since 2002 as Deputy Registrar at the Student Affairs and Alumni Department.
Meanwhile, UPSI vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran described her appointment as fitting due to her vast experience and high academic qualifications.
In thanking UPSI for having confidence in her, Zainab said she would use her experience to enhance the country's education management system, particularly in UPSI. — Bernama
